Friends of Odiyana

Picture
One day Ananda, who had been thinking deeply about things for a while, turned to the Buddha and exclaimed:
“Lord, I’ve been thinking- spiritual friendship is at least half of the spiritual life!”
The Buddha replied: “Say not so, Ananda, say not so. Spiritual friendship is the whole of the spiritual life!”
Samyutta Nikaya, Verse 2

As the Buddha has pointed out Spiritual Friendship is incredibly important on the path of Dharma…

In fact Sangha (Spiritual Companions) is regarded as the third Jewel alongside (and as important as) The Buddha and his teachings.

The Odiyana Centre is maintained completely by donations from the people that are involved with the centre and by the hard work of the Lama.

Unlike a lot of organisations, we are not particularly rich but the ongoing cost of providing a Dharma Centre has been covered by the commitment of the Sangha and particularly through the hard work of the Lama. Our main expenses are the rental of the centre in Hawthorn as well as Bills, the maintanence of the garden. Administrative costs, the mortgage on the land at Foster and all seperate costs associated with setting up the retreat centre.

Traditionally in Dharma centres, the Lama does not work but is able to put all of his or her energy into guiding their students.

However for the last decade our teacher has worked tirelessly to take the Odiyana Centre to the point where we have a retreat centre and a centre in the city where people can find some inner peace. Such is his commitment to help us all.

The Dharma Centre is not here for the benefit of the teacher. The teacher does not need it, it is us, the tired, wandering travellers who need it the most.

Therefore it is the purpose of Friends of Odiyana to facilitate a system where the Dharma centre is supported by those of us who understand it’s value and want to help maintain the light for the benefit of many.

For anyone who has been involved with the centre for a while, or who would like to contribute to keeping the centre running or who would just like to generate some positive energy we would like to ask for an ongoing contribution:

Friends of Odiyana is a group of dedicated people who making regular monthly or fortnightly contributions to keeping our centre running. We are asking for a small donation of $100.00 per month ($25 per week) by direct credit into the Odiyana Account.

Friends of Odiyana can attend any number of Odiyana classes as part of their contribution (Excluding Reiki courses). We also meet for regular events such as Tsoks (Tantric Feast Offering) and general get togethers. Donations can also be used towards retreats in the future.

Click here to get involved for the benefit of all ourselves and all future students of the Odiyana Centre.

Your help is very highly appreciated so thank you.

With Love
